Baker began skating at age 2, but did not start seriously training and competing until age 10 ... Participated in the Basic Skills Program for two years ... Skated with Joylyn Yang for five years, at which time the team was coached by Baker's parents Steve and Sharon, who competed at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games ... Parents still coach in Washington.
Hawayek is currently a student at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. ... Pursuing a degree in Biomedical Studies with an interest in Neurosurgery ... Was an honor roll student ... Received her school district's Superintendent's Art Award ... Member of the National Junior Honor Society ... Works as a Basic Skills coach.
Baker was born with a club left foot - "It literally makes it two sizes smaller then the right foot. At birth my parents were told I would never be able to walk and, well, I essentially proved them wrong!" ... Graduated Kamiak H.S. in Mukilteo, Wash. ... Volunteers with local Basic Skills programs.
