Kim is the 2010 Olympic champion and a two-time world champion (2009, '13) ... Announced in July 2012 that she will return to competition and retire after the 2014 Olympics.

Kim is the first Korean figure skater to win an ISU championship (2006 world junior championship), medal at an ISU championship (silver at the 2005 world junior championships) and win the world title, which she did in 2009, becoming the first woman to crack the 200-point barrier under the IJS in the process ... Never finished off the podium at any competition in her career ... Trained partially in Canada ... Brian Orser, her former coach, is the 1984 and 1988 Olympic silver medalist.
