(02/07/2013) - Pairs team Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim withdrew Friday from the 2013 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships because of a foot injury Scimeca suffered in practice.

Scimeca had been experiencing pain in her right foot since the first day of practice in Osaka, Japan. She will undergo a full evaluation upon her return to Colorado Springs, Colo., where the team trains.

Scimeca and Knierim, who teamed up last April, won the silver medal last month at the 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Omaha, Neb. They are the first alternates to the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships.

The team started its season by winning the gold at the 2012 Cup of Nice and followed that with a first-place finish at the 2013 Midwestern Sectional Championships and a fourth-place showing at the 2012 NHK Trophy.
