"We have just seen a tremendous week of skating here at all levels, in novice, junior and senior. The impact of the developmental programs at our Skate Canada sections across the country was evident, as we saw champions come from many different regions in Canada," said Mike Slipchuk, director of high performance for Skate Canada. "We are confident that as we now send our skaters out on the international stage, they will all challenge for the podium and championship titles with the best in the world at both the senior and junior level."
Canada qualified three men, three dance teams, two pairs teams and one lady at the 2013 World Championships. One men's and one dance spot has been left open and will be named following the 2013 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Osaka, Japan.
"We are proud to send an exceptionally strong team to the world championships, which are being held here in Canada. Not only do we have two reigning world champions on the team, but every member will be competitive and challenging for either podium or top-10 results," Slipchuk said. "We are fortunate to be able to hold this event in Canada and know that our skaters will appreciate competing in front of a home crowd."
