(01/17/2013) - French ice dancers Nathalie Péchalat and Fabian Bourzat have withdrawn from the 2013 European Figure Skating Championships, which will begin next Wednesday in the Croatian capital of Zagreb.

During an intense practice session on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at their training home in Detroit, Mich., Bourzat suffered a partially torn muscle in his groin, an injury that is expected to sideline him for several weeks.

Bourzat will return to France next week to receive medical treatment, while Péchalat will travel to Zagreb as captain of the French team.

Péchalat and Bourzat are two-time European champions and the reigning world bronze medalists. They were the favorites to win their third European title next week.
