(09/24/2012) - Joshua Farris has shown he belongs on the international (junior) stage. Now, he's out to prove he has what it takes to compete with the best the United States has to offer.

The 17-year-old from Washington state is a five-time medalist (three gold) in the Junior Grand Prix Series, took the bronze at the 2011 JGP Final, and earned the silver at the 2012 World Junior Championships.

Those successes are counter-balanced somewhat by the fact that he has struggled in each of his last two appearances at the U.S. championships, finishing 21st in 2011 and 16th in 2012. (His placement in 2011 is directly attributed to a series of health issues he experienced at the event.)

He got off to a flying start in 2012-13, winning the gold at JGP Lake Placid by a whopping 36 points and landing a clean quad toe in his Rachmaninoff free skate.

When he's not skating, Farris can be found enjoying the outdoor lifestyle of his training town of Colorado Springs, practicing photography and playing video games. He answered some questions for icenetwork.com.
