(06/27/2012) - U.S. Figure Skating headquarters and the World Figure Skating Museum & Hall of Fame are a safe distance from the wildfire burning through Colorado Springs.

The building which houses both entities is located at 20 First Street in the Broadmoor (southwest) section of the city, 10 miles from Waldo Canyon, where the fires originated, and six miles from the southernmost edge of the main evacuation area (as of Wednesday morning).

Headquarters is open and operating as usual.

Several local skaters have reportedly been affected by the evacuations. According to Tiffany Hyden Dombeck, a coach at the Broadmoor Skating Club, Tyler Brooks and his family were evacuated from the Mountain Shadows neighborhood, as was Andrew Skillington. Tim Koleto and his family were on pre-evacuation notice as of Wednesday morning.

Broadmoor skater John Coughlin tweeted Wednesday morning: "The fire doubled inside [sic] overnight. Visibility is terrible outside my window. I feel like we're on the set of a doomsday disaster movie."

The fire started Saturday and has since spread to cover more than 15,000 acres, forcing the evacuation of 32,000 area residents. It is estimated more than 100 homes have been destroyed in the blaze.

Colorado Springs is home to the United States Olympic Committee; several national governing bodies, including those of figure skating, hockey and swimming; and the Broadmoor SC.
