(05/04/2012) - Next season's Skate America will be held in a part of the country that's become quite familiar to U.S. figure skating fans.

The city of Kent., Wash., located less than 20 miles south of Seattle, will be the site of 2012 Hilton HHonors Skate America. The event, the first of six stops in the 2012 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, will take place at the ShoWare Center and run from Oct. 19-21, 2012.

"We look forward to returning to the state of Washington for Skate America," said David Raith, executive director of U.S. Figure Skating. "Washington is home to some of the best and most supportive figure skating fans in the country, and we look forward to showcasing this event to the Seattle area."

This marks the third time Skate America will be staged in Washington, having been held in Spokane in 2002 and Everett in 2008. Washington has also hosted six U.S. Figure Skating Championships, including the 2007 and 2010 versions.

Olympic silver medalist ice dancer Ben Agosto, who lives and coaches in the Seattle area, will serve as the event's honorary chairperson.

The full roster of athletes invited to compete at 2012 Skate America will be announced May 21.

All-event ticket packages can be purchased by visiting www.2012skateamerica.com or at the ShoWare Center box office.
