Finnish finishes dominate synchro field in France

(02/06/2012) - The 2012 French Cup took place this weekend in Rouen, France, from Feb. 4-6. Team USA was represented by Miami University and California Gold in seniors, and the Skyliners and Team Braemar in juniors.

Finnish teams took the top two spots in the senior ranks with Team Unique placing first. They earned 183.92 points, placing ahead of the 2011 World Synchronized silver medalists, Marigold Ice Unity, who earned 179.24 points. Team Paradise of Russia rounded out the podium, scoring 169.02 points.

Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) placed fifth with 159.44 points and their American teammates, California Gold (Culver City, Calif.), earned 115.24 points and placed seventh.

Finland also dominated the junior competition, sweeping the podium. The 2011 Junior World Challenge Cup silver medalists Musketeers placed first with 157.60 points, finishing ahead by nine points. Team Fintastic, who won the 2011 Junior World Challenge Cup, settled for the silver medal, and Team Mystique finished in third with 145.32 points.

The Skyliners finished just off the podium in fourth place, earning 138.72 points. Team Braemar, who earned 127.70 points, finished in sixth.

The 2012 synchronized international season will continue with the 2012 Neuchatel Trophy in Neuchatel, Switzerland. Team USA will again be represented by four teams, including the Crystallettes, the Lexettes, Chicago Jazz and the 2011 World Synchronized bronze medalists Haydenettes.
