The 2012 Russian Championships are to be held Dec. 25-29, 2011, in Saransk, Russia.
In an interview conducted at the 2011 Rostelecom Cup and posted on UniversalSports.com, Plushenko said he is preparing to take the ice in Saransk, which would be his first competition since he won the silver medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.
"I'm finally healthy," he said in the interview. "I'd like to continue in amateur sport. I would like to compete more, more, more, more until 2014, until my Olympic Games in Russia."
Last week, the Associated Press reported Plushenko was leaving politics -- in which he had been marginally involved since 2006 -- to devote himself full-time to training, with the goal of representing the host country in Sochi.
He reiterated his intention to return to competition this season in an interview published Tuesday in the Russian sports newspaper, Sport-Express.
Plushenko was stripped of his eligibility in June 2010 after appearing in exhibitions without the the permission of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia. This past April, Plushenko expressed interest in regaining his eligible status to the Russian skating federation in written form, and in June, the International Skating Union announced it had reinstated him.
