2010 National Showcase kicks off in Cape Cod
More than 200 competitors will take the ice

Singles events include light entertainment, dramatic entertainment and extemporaneous improvisation. Ensemble events include duet, mini-ensembles (3-7 skaters) and production number (8-30 skaters). A record 14 mini-ensemble entries are slated to perform at this year's event.
Singles skaters qualified by finishing in the top four in a sanctioned, competed theatrical skating event during the qualifying period of Aug. 13, 2009, to July 10, 2010.
National Showcase gives an avenue to skaters who enjoy using their athletic skills to serve their artistry. Singles participating in light or dramatic entertainment categories as well as duets perform under spotlights. All other events are performed under full house lighting. Skaters are allowed to use props in their programs.
Highlighting this year's participants is Jennifer Jones, the 2009 National Showcase extemporaneous champion. Jones (Hawaii FSC) has competed at every National Showcase since the event began in 2004.
The name of the winner of the singles Parade of Champions will be added to the Richard Dwyer perpetual award. New this year is the junior Parade of Champions winner will get his or her name on the perpetual award in memory of Haley Rose Gans, a member of the Broadmoor FSC who died in a skiing accident this past winter.
