(04/22/2010) - Colorado Springs, Colo. --- U.S. Figure Skating has announced the selection of Salt Lake City, Utah, as the site of the 2011 U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships. The event, which will be hosted by Salt Lake Figure Skating, is set to take place Dec. 14-18, 2010, at the Salt Lake City Sports Center.

"The Salt Lake City Sports Complex and Salt Lake Figure Skating are excited to host the 2011 U.S. Junior Championships," said Tiffany King, chair of the event's local organizing committee. "We have a fantastic group of volunteers and staff who are eager to welcome the top skaters in the juvenile and intermediate levels. With our incredible facility, beautiful mountains and wonderful snow, it will be a spectacular event for all to enjoy!"

The U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships crown the U.S. champion in ladies, men's, pairs and ice dancing in the first two levels of the U.S. Figure Skating competitive structure: juvenile and intermediate. The remaining three levels -- novice, junior and senior -- will compete Jan. 22-30, 2011, at the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

Singles skaters qualify for the U.S. Junior Championships by finishing in the top four at one of nine regional championships held throughout the country in October 2010, while pairs and ice dancing teams qualify by finishing in the top eight at one of three sectional championships held throughout the country in November 2010.

Past champions of the U.S. Junior Championships include 2010 Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek, 2010 Olympic ice dancing silver medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White, and Olympian and 2010 U.S. champion Rachael Flatt.

This will be the second time the U.S. Junior Championships will have been held in Salt Lake City, which also hosted the 2008 event.
