U.S. Adult Championships to kick off next month
Championship events begin Friday, April 16, with championship compulsory dance and championship masters men. Competition concludes Saturday, April 17 with the championship free dance, championship pairs and championship masters ladies.
Icenetwork.com will provide on-demand video coverage of the event for Season Pass subscribers within the contiguous United States. The site will also feature live results, event recaps and photo galleries for subscribers and nonsubscribers.
Competitors in this annual event are divided into five age categories (21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60 and 61+) and two tracks (masters and adult). Events are held in singles, pairs, ice dancing and interpretive. Skaters qualify for the championship and championship gold events by placing in the top four at one of three sectional championships held earlier in the year.
Minnesota is no stranger to hosting major figure skating events. Last month, the 2010 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships took place in Minneapolis, Minn., and the 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships were held in Saint Paul, Minn. This year marks the first time the state has hosted the U.S. Adult Championships. Last year, the event took place in Grand Rapids, Mich.
