Two U.S. synchro teams to compete in Prague Cup

(01/29/2010) - Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Two U.S. teams will vie for gold in the junior and senior divisions Jan. 27-30 at the Prague Cup 2010. Reigning five-time U.S. bronze medalists the Crystallettes will represent the U.S. in the senior division, while the Skyliners, which took junior bronze at the 2009 Spring Cup, will compete in the junior division.

The junior and senior short programs will be held at the TESLA Arena Friday, Jan. 29, followed by the free skates Saturday, Jan. 30.

This year's senior competition consists of six teams from four countries: Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland and the United States. In the junior field, there are six teams from as many nations: Australia, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Sweden, and the United States.

Senior
The Crystallettes (Dearborn FSC/Dearborn, Mich.) placed third the 2009 U.S. Synchronized Championships for the fifth consecutive year and were sixth last year at the French Cup. This will be the team's fifth appearance at the Prague Cup since 2003. In 2008, they won their third bronze medal at the event. The team will skate its short program to "Love Me or Leave Me" by Sammy Davis Jr., and its free skate to "Malagueña" by the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

Junior
The Skyliners (The SC of New York/New York, N.Y.) will be making their debut at this event. They finished seventh for the second straight year at the 2009 U.S. Synchronized Championships and won junior bronze at the 2009 Spring Cup. They are also the 2008 Zagreb Snowflakes Trophy junior champions. The squad will skate its short program to selections from the Les Miserables soundtrack and its free skate to selections from the August Rush movie soundtrack.
