Nine U.S. skaters to compete in AEGON Cup

(03/06/2008) - Nine U.S. figure skaters will compete in the AEGON International Challenge Cup, March 6-9 in The Hague, Netherlands. The event is for novice, junior and senior skaters. The top three finishers in each discipline will be awarded medals as will the overall team winner. The event begins Thursday, March 6 with the junior compulsory dance. The U.S. skaters competing in the Netherlands are Becky Bereswill (senior), Amanda Dobbs (junior), Brittney Rizo (junior), Andrew Gonzales (junior), Daniel O'Shea (junior), Kaylyn Patitucci and Karl Edelmann (junior), Marissa Secundy (novice) and David Wang (novice). All these skaters will be making their international debuts in the Netherlands. LADIES Leading the U.S. contingent is Rizo, who brought home the bronze medal as a junior at the 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Saint Paul, Minn. She also won the bronze as a novice at the 2006 State Farm U.S. Championships. MEN Gonzales garnered bronze as a junior at this year's U.S. championships, improving on his 11th-place finish in 2007. O'Shea is the 2008 U.S. novice champion, while Wang took home novice bronze in Saint Paul. ICE DANCING The ice dancing team of Patitucci and Edelmann began their partnership this year and finished 12th at the U.S. Championships.
