Carolina Kostner will not compete next season, the Italian skater announced Thursday on her Facebook page.

Her announcement read in full: "Dear friends, I decided not to compete this season and to commit myself on ice shows (like Intimissimi on Ice - Pop Opera), university and friends! On Vanity Fair Italy, today you will be able to read more about it!"

Kostner reached the pinnacle of her career in February, when she won the Olympic bronze medal in Sochi. She followed that up with a third-place finish at the world championships, marking her sixth career podium finish at that competition. She captured her first and only world title in 2012. She also has five European titles to her credit.

Kostner joins a growing list of world-class ladies who will not compete in the 2014-15 season. Yu-Na Kim announced her retirement following the Sochi Games, and Mao Asada said she is taking the next year off to rest.
