U.S. Figure Skating announced Tuesday the selection of Hoffman Estates, Ill., as the site of 2014 Skate America. Skate America, the first of six stops in the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, will take place Oct. 24-26 at the Sears Centre.

"The Greater Chicago area is home to many of our clubs and has an extensive skating fan base," U.S. Figure Skating Executive Director David Raith said. "U.S. Figure Skating is excited to bring our principal international event to this skating-rich area."

Season Pass subscribers will have access to icenetwork's live coverage of 2014 Skate America as well as the entire 2014 Grand Prix Series. The full list of subscription events will announced at a later date.

The 2014 edition of Skate America will mark the first time the event will be held in the Chicago area. It will be the first major U.S. Figure Skating event, domestic or international, held in Greater Chicago since the 1946 U.S. Championships. Sears Centre recently hosted the 2014 Midwestern and Pacific Coast synchronized sectional championships in January.

"The Village of Hoffman Estates is thrilled to host another world-class event and is delighted to welcome 2014 Hilton HHonors Skate America to the Sears Centre arena in October of 2014," Hoffman Estates Mayor William D. McLeod said. "Skate America features some of the most talented athletes in the world, and it is a tremendous honor to have them competing in our village."

Skate America will feature three days of competition in ladies, men's, pairs and ice dance. Past Skate America titlists include five-time world champion and two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan and Olympic champions Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton, Evan Lysacek, and Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

Skate America will be the first of six events in the 2014 Grand Prix Series. The complete list of athletes selected to compete at 2014 Skate America, as well as the rest of the Grand Prix events, will be announced June 27.
